This randomized controlled trial investigated the efficacy of single autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for patients suffering from chronic, moderate-to-severe lumbar discogenic pain. In a double-blind setting, participants were randomized to receive either intradiscal PRP or a contrast agent control, with follow-ups extending to one year. The results demonstrated that the PRP group experienced statistically significant improvements in pain intensity, physical function, and overall satisfaction within the first eight weeks compared to the control group. Those treated with PRP maintained significant functional gains through the one-year mark, as measured by the Functional Rating Index (FRI).
