According to this Level II systematic review of eight RCTs, three weekly sessions of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) provide superior pain relief compared to corticosteroid injections and exercise programs at 2 and 4 months. Within these treatments, focused ESWT demonstrated greater efficacy in pain reduction than radial pressure waves. While patients experienced functional gains at 6 months, these improvements did not meet the threshold for clinical significance.
