A Systematic Review of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for Various Sports-Related Injuries.

This systematic review of 56 studies suggests that extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is an effective and safe treatment for specific sports-related injuries in athletes. This study shows that ESWT works well as a standalone therapy for conditions like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and hamstring tendinopathy, while acting as a beneficial supplement to exercise for shin splints and osteitis pubis. Because the treatment has minimal side effects, most athletes in the studies were able to maintain their training schedules during recovery.
