A Meta-Analysis of the Efficacy of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis.

This meta-analysis of 9 randomized controlled trials involving 1,174 participants confirms that extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) administered without local anesthesia is a highly effective treatment for recalcitrant plantar fasciitis.

The study found that approximately 40% to 60% of patients experienced a significant reduction in overall heel pain, while 41% to 61% saw improvements in “first step” morning pain and 49% to 60% reported better outcomes during daily activities.
