Study assessing the efficacy of ultrasound-guided Tenex tenotomy for greater trochanteric pain syndrome.

A 22-month study of 29 patients with chronic gluteal tendinopathy found that ultrasound-guided tenotomy via the Tenex device significantly improved both pain and mobility. Mean pain scores dropped by over 50% (5.86 to 2.82), while functional Harris Hip Scores rose from 60.03 to 77.47. Notably, the procedure—performed under local anesthesia to debride pathologic tissue—prevented further surgery in 90% of cases. These results suggest that percutaneous ultrasonic tenotomy is a safe, effective intervention for persistent lateral hip pain.
